If it wasn't for the team of dedicated vets and nurses at Vineyard Vets and Kyle Sandilands and Imogen Anthony for donating the much needed van to transport the animals, the outcome may not have been so promising.

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who contributed to help save a beautiful tigers life.

Emergency Operation

On Monday afternoon, during feeding time our keepers found Meekha, one of the tigers that we care for at the retreat, laying flat out in her night den. It soon became obvious that she was having trouble breathing and on closer inspection a puncture wound was found on her side.

Meekha was in obvious distress and was immediately rushed to Dr Rob Zammit's VINEYARD Vet Hospital, where the team wasted no time in staying back after hours to operate on her. The puncture wound had remnants of a stick in it that had penetrated into the chest cavity, (such a freak accident) causing a pneumothorax. In other words air was being sucked in through the hole into the chest cavity which caused her lungs to collapse. It was a touch and go two hour operation and all hands were on board

Meekha is now currently resting and is still not out of the woods yet but with intensive care and medication we have our fingers crossed she will make a full recovery.
